Summer is drawing to a close (I know it's supposed to be over by Labor Day, but we live in California so we get an extended season, plus if I say it's over it will mean that I failed -- yet again -- to achieve my bikini body) and the kids continue to mature like crazy.
Hudson LOVES playing with his train set these days. He can sit in the middle of the floor with his train tracks all around him and push the train engines and cars for hours. (We don't actually let him do this, but he would if we'd let him...) He also loves trucks and little cars. Any mode of transportation, really. He also loves watching Thomas The Tank Engine and Calliou on PBS Sprout -- those are his favorite shows.
He seems to be in a much better mood all-around these days -- most of his teeth are in, so that could be part of it. In addition, we've gone almost a month (knock wood) without anyone being sick, so I'm sure that contributes to the happier mood, too. He used to be Mr. Sleeper -- he'd sleep in until 7Am or even 7:30AM most days, but the last couple of weeks he's been up with Mercer (and the roosters) at 5:30AM or 6:00AM.
He has an incredible, infectious laugh that Maria can really draw out of him like no one else. When he gets laughing it's really the most adorable thing you've ever heard.
He has started calling everything that doesn't have a name "Noonie." (Hudson, what is this horse's name? Noonie. Huddy, does this piggy have a name? Noonie.) It's pretty hilarious. His favorite thing is calling Mommy "Noonie."
What else? He can now get up and down steps pretty easily (and without help), he's enjoying his swim class much better (he even puts his head underwater), and he loves driving in the car he got for his birthday. in short, he's loveliness on a stick.
As for Miss Mercer, she continues to be an absolute spitfire with a larger than life personality.
She LOVES wearing around Mommy and Mama's shoes, "putting on makeup" (she even has her own set of brushes that quite frankly are nicer than mine), and carrying around purses.
She picks out her outfits every day (this is a must -- no more picking out outfits for her) and sometimes will make multiple costume changes throughout the day as her mood shifts. For a while there she would get REALLY attached to a particular article of clothing and have to wear that every day, all day long. (The all-time winner was a Snoopy T-shirt. She loved it so much she would cry when it was in the washing machine so we finally had to buy her another one she could alternate.)
She will often call out to us, spontaneously, "I love you!" and this is only increasing her inheritance by the day. She also runs up to us when we get home each night and says, with a big smile and hug, "I MISSED you!" Again, if she wants a pony she need only ask the question.
My favorite part of the day is morning, because she usually wakes up first, and I bring her into the bed with us to snuggle for awhile. Then she drinks her milk and watches Peep and the Big Wide World with me. (The most genius show on television!) It's absolutely precious time.
All in all we are convinced we have the world's most brilliant children (which is as it should be) and consider ourselves the luckiest mommies on the planet.
